The journey

A post on Nice cannot be published without explaining our painful journey to the sunny capital of the French Riviera...and of course it all stems from the crazy night that was the festival of Saint John in Barcelona

After zombie-walking to our new hostel that we purposely booked near the bus station, we made our way to buy our ticket for the bus the next night, leaving at 11pm and arriving mid morning in Nice...of course when we get there it’s all sold out.

Sleep deprivation didn’t help our then attempts to find an alternate route there; finally deciding on Marseille as an overnight stopover.

Next morning on our 9hr journey we decide were going to make it all the way to Nice...so we booked an onward train to arrive around midnight...we had no accommodation but thought that would be no problem.

Unbeknown to us, the French transport union had gone on strike and our train was 2 hours late, landing us in Nice precisely at 2am.

We were lucky our hostel had a lounge area in which we set up shop for the next 5hrs til they let us check in

Never again will we leave booking transport until the last minute!
